Cat-Tales is the story of the Rogues
Gallery but it is also much more. The stories are set in the ďrealĒ Gotham City, where the events about Batman and
his enemies as depicted in comic books are understood to be the exaggerations, and sometimes
the outright fictions, of tabloid journalists at The Gotham Post. The Dark
Knight Rises Catwoman opened July 20, 2012, and we all hoped it might set the
record straight and give us the real story, the real the real
Gotham City, the Rogues Gallery, the real Bruce & Selina, the hero we deserve in every sense, but
we were disappointed again by a convoluted mess of shout outs to the very
comics that created these problems. TDKR did nothing but perpetuate
for another generation the sad misconception that "realism" is required and
costumed rogues are not what readers want to see. The new cartoon
series declares it will follow Christopher Nolan's lead and have none of the
classic theme villains like Joker, Riddler, Penguin and Catwoman. They
lose. And so do we. We wait again for something worthy from the
official franchises, but still we have Cat-Tales by Chris Dee .
Letís say nearly everything youíve ever read in a comic book is
wrong. The identities are correct: Bruce Wayne is Batman, Selina Kyle is
Catwoman. They live in Gotham City. There is a Wayne Manor, a Batcave and
Batsignal, etc. But the rest is all exaggeration, distortion, and often the
outright lies of a sensationalist tabloid called The Gotham Post, otherwise
known as DC Comics.
Cat-Tales tells the truth behind that fiction, revealing characters
that are more complex and fully-human than anyone thought possible.
Heart-stopping romance, side-splitting humor, and poignantly understated
tragedy, itís all here: the man inside the Bat, the woman within the Cat,
the life between the panels, the truth behind the masks.
